DNF @ 53%.
i wanted to love this book, i really did. i absolutely love ‘the hate u give’ and ‘dear martin’, and this book is supposed to be a blend of the two. however, i just felt like the writing wasn’t the best, and that’s the main thing that bothered me.
i wasn’t sucked into this book like i thought i was going to be, and there are too many books on my tbr that i know will pull me in immediately!! i’m DNF’ing this now, but there is the slight the possibility that i will pick this up again and ...more
Trigger warnings: racism, police brutality, violence, gun violence, death of a sibling, authority figures who shouldn't be in positions of authority oh my God I am so mad right now.
Ow, my feelings.
Okay, first of all, can we please talk about how stunning this cover is? Because it is GLORIOUS. Okay. Let's move on to talking about the story here.
I loved it. I loved everything about it from start to finish. Marvin is a precious little cinnamon roll of a protagonist. I loved his voice, the way he ...more
“People don’t fucking know that black folks were never included in all. All-American means white. All-inclusive means white. All lives means white lives. It’s bullshit. White dolls always make it about them, and I’m pissed that they’re trying to mask their hatred with these tags.”

ALL THE STARS 🌟#partner | There are some books for which I just tell you to trust me and read.....and this is one of them. This mature YA story is raw and grief-filled and the most blatant book about police brutality and #blacklivesmatter that I have read yet. This is out on March 20th and is a must-read. It will make you squirm and will open your eyes and it will break your heart. I read it in 2 short sittings, but I will be thinking about it for a LONG time to come.

Review to come.
This was a very important, relevant, and heartbreaking read. BUT I just couldn't get into this as much as I did with Dear Martin. I also could of done without the romance at the end of this, I felt like it took away from the heart of the story. Overall though I would recommend this.
