The Guilty Ones (DI Jackman & DS Evans #4) Reviews
Joy Ellis is definitely one of my favorite authors out there right now, and this book really cements that.
Ellis has the unique ability to take seemingly-simple, straightforward mysteries and turn them into wonderfully complex stories that lead you on a journey. It's really amazing.
This book is part of a series, but can certainly be read as a standalone novel.
This novel starts with the suicide of DI Jackman's sister-in-law, Sarah. However, things don't seem right from the start, and soon, it's al ...more
DI Rowan Jackman’s brother James’ wife has gone missing. Later James’ wife Sarah is found dead. It is initially believed that she drowned herself by jumping in a river. But DS Marie Evans and Jackman don’t believe it. She lived a wonderful life, with two small children, a loving husband and a beautiful home.
As the investigation begins, Jackman realizes that he knows very little about Sarah’s background. Then another woman dies in the same circumstances. This only increases Marie and Jack ...more
DI Jackman’s sister in law has committed suicide. She didn’t appear unhappy in any way and the family home is one of children and happiness. When another “suicide” is found soon afterwards things don’t add up and Rowan wants to get to the bottom of it not only for his own and his brothers sanity, but for his two small boys now left without a mother. Joy instantly gets you both into the story and into the characters- a gifted talent- that makes you want to turn the pages. An excellent plot (as eve ...more
Joy Ellis is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. The speed at which her books are published is phenomenal, as is her writing.
There is just something I really like about all Joy's books, I love the stories, the settings, the characters. I really want to sit and not move once I have started one of these books. It's like something takes over me.
This is the 4th book in the JACKMAN & EVANS series, a series i'm really enjoying. I also love Joys other series of books featuring NIKKI GALENA. ...more
This is the fourth book of Joy's I have read, and the second in the Jackman and Evans series.
Even though this is the fourth book in the series it is quite easy to jump into it without having read the previous three stories, although it obviously does help as bits of the story jump back and relate to the previous books.
The book starts off with DI Jackman's Sister-in-law committing suicide, which is totally against character leaving a husband and two sons heart broken. As he investigates he reali ...more
This is book 4 in the Jackman and Evans series but they do work very well as stand alone. However, if this is the first book you have read be aware you have missed the background and development of some of the characters which could affect your enjoyment a little.
It is no secret that I am a MASSIVE Joy Ellis fan. She has 2 police series and a couple of stand alone novels. Her Nikki Galena series is police procedural whereas this Jackman and Evans series is more psychological thriller. I do l ...more
Probably one of the darkest physiologic mysteries I've ever read.
Yes Jackman' s sister-in-law did commit suicide. But wasn't that a shadow of a man behind her. That brief glimpse on film leads Jackman in search of a killer, like they have never seen before. Yet out of this investigation comes the knowledge to hold and appreciate what you hold dear. A must-read for real mystery fans. Joy Ellis holds you spellbound.
DI Jackman does not know anything about his sister-in-law's past. He never even wondered about it which is not a problem until she jumps in the river in London. Why is she there? Why would she do that? She was very happy with her family and her life. Another woman the same age jumps off a building in London for no reason. Jackman is able to stay on the case and working with the team to find out what is in Sarah's past. They find a whole different life his brother never knew about and soon come t ...more
